Fireplace patch notes: Open House

Fireplace is a living room full of games: sit down on the couch and the TV plays bumper balls, Party, the arena, Dogfight and golf in turn, with up to 256 people in one room, in your browser. Here is everything that has changed since we first showed it.

Dogfight

A fifth game on the TV: the arena with wings. Every fighter is a ship over Skyways, a valley with a river canyon, spires, arches and ring gates.

• Lasers, a homing charge shot and bombs, with boost, brake and barrel rolls.
• Free-for-all, red against blue, the juggernaut, or Ring Race: three laps through the gates.
• Ships that meet collide, so flying close is a risk.
• It plays three minutes, between Party and golf.

Win one and you earn Ace and the flight helmet.

Party: 15 new minigames, and teams

Party has 41 minigames now, a different one every round.

• Glass Bridge: rows of glass in pairs over the sea, and only one pane of each pair holds.
• Gate Crash: walls of portcullises slamming down, each on its own clock.
• Stompin' Ground: boulders on legs charging across a disc.
• Seesaws: planks that tip under the crowd two seconds late.
• Kart Grab: every ball a go-kart on a course of coins, with drifts and mini-turbos.
• Disaster Island: stay on the island as one disaster after another hits it, a flood and lightning among them.
• Slap Happy: an island over the sea and a glove on every ball.
• Trap Run: runners against trappers, who spring the course's traps.
• Parry Ball: glowing orbs hunt one ball at a time; click to send one on.
• Mingle: ride the carousel. When the music stops a number is called, and you need a room with that many in it before the doors slam.
• Honeycomb: trace the shape pressed into your own candy disc.
• Sumo Ring: stay on a shrinking ring over the sea while posts swing round it, knocking balls off.

Three are red against blue, and the winning side places first:

• Dodgeball: a hit sends you to jail, and a catch brings a teammate back.
• Volleyball: bump it the way you roll, spike it from a hop.
• Soccer: a walled pitch, a push the way you roll and a chip from a hop.

The arena: three new modes

The arena has fifteen modes now.

• Lucky Blocks: everyone for themselves. Break a gold ? block for a random gun, an overshield, fast legs, frags, or something unlucky.
• Evade: everyone against the chasers. If one catches you, you're down and crawling, and a friend can get you back up. Last 3:30 and you win.
• Escape: one hunter with a sword against the room. Hack the terminals, open the exits and get out, picking each other up as you go.

Your look, your name, your avatar

• Blocky bodies. Ride your ball as a blocky figure that walks it along, in three skin tones or as a robot. The arena's fighters wear the same figure.
• Emotes. Four of them, which your rider acts out for everyone to see.
• Your Elo Pros avatar. Sign in and your rider or fighter wears the avatar you made on your profile.
• Your name. Signed in, you go by your Elo Pros name in every game and on the marshmallow board. A guest is P1, P2 and so on.
• Confetti. Winners cheer under confetti when a round ends, riders are thrown back when balls meet, and the camera shakes when yours does.
• A rounder font for the text in bumper balls, Party and on the TV.

Achievements

There are 24 now, up from 13, and each has its own picture on the game's page. The new ones:

Ten of them open a look you can wear: Big cheese opens the Swiss cheese ball, Ace the flight helmet, On fire the ember ball, Bonfire the s'more ball and House champion the platinum ball. Sign in and your achievements follow your wallet to any room. Without signing in, this browser keeps them.

Play on your phone

Every game has touch controls: a stick wherever your left thumb lands, drag anywhere else to look, and buttons on the right (jump in bumper balls and Party, fire in the arena, Dogfight and golf). The couch gets a bar to change your ball, hat, body and the room's theme.

Rooms

Open Fireplace without an invite and it seats you in the first room with a free seat.

Make things for it

• The map editor. Draw an arena or Dogfight map in your browser, now in 3D: shape and paint the ground, drag out walls and roofs, place spawns, pads, teleporters, flags, hills and race gates, and play it with bots. Drop a Roblox place or a MagicaVoxel model on it to start from that. Send your map in from the editor; every map is checked by playing it with AI fighters, and an accepted one credits you on the store.
• The studio. Edit a Party minigame in your browser, build and check it there, play it against AI balls, and send it in.
• Make your own game. Fireplace is a template: copy it on GitHub and you get your own game with its own page, and Claude to help build it. Press play online with friends and a room starts for you.

An accepted pull request to Fireplace is paid like any job on the board.
